This Saturday, February 17, the Nature park “Beremytske” opened its doors to all those who wish to spend winter together and cheerfully to welcome the arrival of spring.
The folk festivities united the inhabitants of Kiev, Chernigov, Kozelts, Oster, Desna, Evminka, Krekhaev and other nearby settlements, for awaking nature by our celebration and accelerate the arrival of heat.
Traditions of Pancake Day
What a Pancake Day without traditional entertainment? As many years ago, one of the main parts of the holiday was horse riding. Everyone could go for a ride in the park, but the bravest tried themselves as riders.
In addition to skating, the participants of the celebration competed in dexterity and strength. Men stormed the “pancake” column, trying to climb to the very top and get their prize. Battles with bags also caused a stir among the guys present. But women and children preferred team skiing and jumping in bags.
The animators invited everyone to sing and dance, so that, as our ancestors believed, to kick away frosts and call for spring.
Master classes for children
For children was created a special program. Sweet table, aqua-grime, funny animators, master classes on modeling of plasticine, drawing horses, making motanka dolls and much more, carried away children not for one hour.
Treats
Partner of the holiday – UBI Catering studio prepared for guests hot snacks, drinks and, of course, pancakes. At the celebration, guests were treated by local residents – pies, salads, sweets and much more – everyone was able to choose a delicacy for themselves.
Excursions in the Park
During the festivities, groups of people wishing to go on an excursion of the Nature park “Beremytske” were formed. The guide was telling the audience about the history of the Park, its inhabitants, peculiarities of flora and fauna. Walking along ecological paths, tourists enjoyed the snow-covered landscapes, and also watched the Polish koniks, that posed for everyone near the watering hole.
Culmination
The culmination of the holiday was the burning of a straw effigy – a symbol of Pancake Day, personifying the passing winter. Under the songs, applause and general exclamations, the scarecrow was burned, which means that, as folk beliefs say, very soon a warm spring awaits us.
